Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic who is also a public speaking event organizer. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency which is a website with videos and guest posts discussing the depictions of females in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as blogger. Feminist Frequency examines the way women are represented in the pop culture. In addition, she works to bring awareness to the targeted and sexist assaults on women and as well as other minorities, she is dedicated to breaking down the stigmas and stereotypes associated with popular culture. A graduate in the field of political and social thinking at York University Sarkeesian is also an extremely sought-after public speaker and she has delivered speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO Festival as well as at The United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. She has been interested in the gender issue and feminist movements from a very young age. In 2009, when she was continuing to study at the university level she started her Feminist Frequency website. This ambitious woman planned to start an internet-based series on gender representation in games, but was the target of a harassment campaign online. But the assault did have been a hindrance, rather it made her more determined as a feminist media critic. Many awards have been presented to her as a way of acknowledging all of the contribution she has contributed to. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winner for her work as a media journalist. She also serves as the creator and director of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit group that focuses on pop-culture representations of females.
