Walter was enrolled in Tulane University, New Orleans Louisiana. In the year 1957, they were discharged from the air force and Walter started his education at Tulane. The family relocated in 1960 into Decatur Georgia where Walter began working at Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. Walter as well as Betty Lou produced a Saturday matinee local TV show for children called Bum Bum and His Buddies in 1964. This was a project that they funded themselves. They established an Actors and Writers Workshop in that same year. It lasted six years. The couple also had two children.
