Taylor
Taylor Swift is that rarest of pop phenomenons: a superstar who managed to fully transition from country to the mainstream becoming an enduring popular icon, and sweeping the globe in the process. Swift removed her roots in the country as though they were part of her skin to reveal that she was perhaps the savviest pop-oriented singer/songwriter of her time, someone who was able to harness the zeitgeist make it personal and just as impressively perform the reverse. This was evident in her earliest hits especially the Neo-tribute Tim McGraw but her second album 2008's Fearless featured a singer-songwriter figuring out her true identity and, in doing so, gaining a mass audience. Fearless was successful not only in America, but also with six platinum-certified songs. Its Top Ten songs Love Story and You Belong with Me were the main reasons for this. It also performed exceptionally well throughout the world. Speak Now delivered almost two years later, which consolidated the success and moved Swift towards the top of superstardom. In the following three years, her fame increased -- Red (2012), Reputation (2014), and 1989 (2014-2015) in 2014-2015 as Swift entered the realm of pop in which her talent was already well-established. However, even when she reduced her approach with 2020's stripped-down sister album folklore, and Evermore she was still atop the charts, a place that she maintained through re-recordings from her back catalog along with Midnights the top charting synth heavy 2022 collection.
